Wolfram Burgard

Director of the Board

Dr. Burgard is a professor at the University of Freiburg where he leads the Laboratory for Autonomous Intelligent Systems. His major research interests lie in mobile robotics, state estimation and control, as well as artificial intelligence. Burgard is an active member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and a lifetime member of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). Dr. Burgard is a recipient of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).

Stephen Brawner

Software Research Intern

Stephen Brawner is a software research intern. He is a Computer Science PhD student at Brown University working with Chad Jenkins in the Brown Robotics Lab. He is currently researching hardware and software testing to improve robot system reliability and reduce the iteration time on development. Prior to attending Brown, Stephen worked as an electromechanical engineer for the solar technology developer eSolar to design an automated heliostat cleaning system to maintain energy collection efficiency while minimizing maintenance costs. He has spent time as an engineering consultant designing prototypes for various companies including a concussion monitoring system in youth sports and a managing device to coordinate a 3D time-lapse photography setup with photo lights and grow lights for capturing natural phenomena.

Software Engineering Intern

Ben is a PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania advised by Prof. Vijay Kumar and Prof. Nathan Michael. His research focuses on how to enable teams of robots to gather information about the world around them. As a software engineering intern at OSRF, he hopes to improve ROS support for multi-robot systems.

Dave Coleman

Software Engineering Intern

Dave Coleman is a robotic software engineering intern at OSRF working on Gazebo-ROS integration, MoveIt! and applying them to Rethink’s Baxter robot. He is continuing some of the projects started during his previous internship at Willow Garage. Dave is a 2nd year PhD student under Dr. Nikolaus Correll at CU Boulder. He received his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineer and a Minor in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2010. Dave’s research interests include motion planning, grasping and perception. Dave is a strong believer in community-driven open source robotics.

Sarah Elliott

Software Engineering Intern

Sarah is a software engineering intern at OSRF, where she is focusing on Android and ROS compatibility, with the goal of allowing developers to easily create robot apps. She is currently completing her BASc in Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. Before coming to OSRF, Sarah spent two internships at Willow Garage, where she worked on Android control of robots and helped develop the mobile manipulation tool MoveIt. Sarah also volunteers teaching robotics to kids using the Turtlebot and other robotics platforms.

Helen Greiner

Director of the Board

Ms. Greiner is a co-founder of iRobot and currently CEO of CyPhyWorks. She has also been honored as a Technology Review “Innovator for the Next Century” and has been awarded the DEMO God Award and DEMO Lifetime Achievement Award. Greiner serves as the elected President and Board Member of the Robotics Technology Consortium (RTC), a non-profit organization established to speed the creation and deployment of ground robotics technology.

Paul Mathieu

Software Research Intern

Paul Mathieu received his M.S. in Information Science and Technology from the University of Tokyo under the supervision of Pr. Yoshihiko Nakamura. His research has been focused on indoor navigation of small UAVs with limited sensors and processing power. He also holds a M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Supaero (France). With a team of students, he built a wheeled robot for the Eurobot competition in 2009 and was in charge of the electronic design of the robot.

Before joining OSRF, Paul was an intern in Willow Garage with Tully Foote, before which he was working on C software for telephone operators as a Software Engineer in Paris.

Kazuto Murase

Software Research Intern

Kazuto Murase studies Mechano-Infomatics at the University of Tokyo in the JSK Lab. He has been developing a robot with arm and eye, integrating recognition and action to perform tasks. He is currently developing rosjava/Android applications at OSRF. Before joining OSRF, he worked at an entrepreneurial venture in Japan and had been developing augmented reality framework for image recognition.

Director of the Board

Mr. Park is the executive vice president of Yujin Robot. At Yujin Robot he has directed the commercialization of educational and entertainment robots, elderly service robots and home cleaning robots. Yujin Robot is one of South Korea’s first generation of service robotics companies and also a leading voice in the Korean robotics community. Before joining Yujin Robotics, Mr. Park was an industrial robotics engineer at Motorola.
